How To Boost Your Confidence So You Can Live Your Dream Life
By: Grace Nossaman from Life Chief Nation
Introduction
There have been many times when I talk to someone who wishes they could escape their 9-to-5 and live the life they have always dreamed of but never do. There could be many reasons that they don’t achieve their dream life such as a negative mindset, no motivation, and self-doubt. Each of these boils down to one thing: your confidence. Your confidence in yourself and your abilities can give you the edge you need to be successful with whatever you do.

What Is Confidence?
According to Google, the definition of confidence is “the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.” In other words, confidence means you can depend on something.
When you have confidence in yourself it means you can depend, or rely, on yourself. You possess the skills and abilities required to reach your dream life. You consistently work towards your goals. You will live your dream life.
It’s easy to doubt ourselves and not truly believe in the statements above, to not believe in yourself.
The good news is that confidence is a skill that can be grown and worked on. We all have moments of self-doubt, even the greats! Having confidence in yourself doesn’t mean that you will never again have self-doubt, but rather be more resilient and quickly turn that doubt into courage.
Why Do Your Goals Benefit From Confidence?
As mentioned earlier, with confidence in yourself and your abilities you could gain the edge you need to be successful in everything you do. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll fail… a lot. But that’s okay! With more confidence, you will be able to get back up time and time again without as much discouragement. And that is absolutely necessary in order to succeed. There will be little to no success without failures first.
So why do your goals benefit from boosting your confidence?
There are actually lots of reasons. Think about the definition of confidence again. It’s all about being able to rely on something. When you boost your confidence in yourself you can more greatly rely on yourself to accomplish your goals.
This has many side effects. For starters, as I briefly mentioned, you are more resilient when it comes to failures.
This is a massive effect because more than likely you will fail multiple times when going after your dream life. But that’s not something to get discouraged about. In fact, each time you fail, you can learn something precious and then put that new information to use.
Think about Thomas Edison who failed about 10,000 times before he was able to successfully make the light bulb. It only takes one time for success.
Another reason would be increased motivation. A lot of times we can lack motivation to work towards our goals. This can come from the goals being overwhelming and with an unknown path. Since we do not know how to get there, we lose confidence that we can get there.
However, if we switch our thinking around to clarifying our goals and boosting our confidence in ourselves, we can find a clear path to these goals. Oftentimes it’s easier to find this clear path than we may think. From here, your motivation will increase because you not only believe that you can achieve the goal but also have a clear plan of action to achieve it.

Take a look at the following three quotes:
“A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval” – Mark Twain
“It is confidence in our bodies, minds, and spirits that allows us to keep looking for new adventures.” – Oprah Winfrey
“With realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world.” – Dalai Lama
Each one of these quotes has to do with confidence allowing you to continue forward.
Boosting your confidence in order to reach your goals and dream life is not some new idea. It has worked time and time again or you wouldn’t hear about it from Mark Twain, Oprah Winfrey, the Dalai Lama, and more. Your confidence has a massive impact on your success and abilities.
If you believe you can’t, then you cannot, but if you believe you can, then the world is open to more possibilities than you could imagine.

How You Can Boost Your Confidence
Convinced and ready to boost your confidence?
Treat Your Body Well
A great way to boost your confidence, even just slightly, is to take care of your body. Wake up early, wash your face, get dressed, and exercise.
Think about when you put on a super nice outfit. You feel unstoppable. Try getting dressed and taking care of your body each and every day.
You’ll begin to feel healthier, more confident in your skin, and therefore more confident in your abilities.
Treat Your Mind Well
This is a huge way that you can boost your confidence. Most times a lack of confidence comes from a negative mindset. Stop talking to yourself this way! You deserve the best, so treat yourself the best you can.
There are lots of things you can do to turn negative self-talk into positive self-talk. Namely, you could start a gratuity journal, and watch out for your thoughts.
Each time you catch yourself saying something negative, spin it to be positive. Practice positive thinking constantly. If you catch yourself saying something like “I can’t afford this,” instead say “how could I afford this.” This gets you thinking and can help you see that you have all the abilities you need.
Practice Affirmations
I hesitate to mention affirmations since they are so commonly used in contexts that don’t fit their true purpose. However, they are a very powerful tool.
I recommend each morning when you wake up to say just one thing. What is something you want to work on? Since we are talking about confidence, your daily affirmation might be something along the lines of “I am confident in all that I do” or “I possess the potential and abilities to reach my goals.”
Affirmations are designed to build your confidence and help you work on things so that you have the confidence to go after what you want.
Each day, pick a new affirmation. Don’t look anything up, just think about what you want to work on and go from there.

Practice Visualizing Your Goals
Visualizing your goals can be super exciting. Think about your dream life. Picture yourself living that dream life. What does it look like? Feel like? Smell like? Really immerse yourself in your goal.
This will help not only motivate yourself but also allow you to see yourself after success.
I also highly encourage you to picture yourself happily working towards your dream life. This will give you the opportunity to see yourself leveraging the abilities you already have to get to where you want to be.
Think about it this way: seeing someone else living the life you want may motivate you to do the same thing, but there’s no confidence boost because you may doubt your abilities and if you can achieve the same life. However, if you’ve seen yourself achieve something in the past, you know without a doubt that you can achieve it.
Visualization is just a way to see yourself using your abilities in the future to get to where you want to be.
Create Goal Milestones
Milestones are helpful in many ways, but when it comes to confidence – it can help by seeing yourself achieve more goals more often.
When we just have massive goals that we can’t achieve, it can become disheartening because we don’t know if we’ve made any real progress.
However, if you take the time to break down your goals into milestones, then you will be achieving goals more often. This is a huge confidence boost.
Participate in Challenges
Finally, I suggest that you participate in challenges. This could be fitness challenges, mental challenges, or whatever you see fit!
Challenges are great because they give you time to invest in yourself, which also invests in your future, and you can build your confidence by completing them. Most challenges aren’t easy to do, which is why they are called challenges. When you complete them, it shows you that anything you put your mind to you can do. This is perfect when it comes to boosting your confidence.

Conclusion
Confidence has a huge impact on whether or not you can achieve your dream life. The good news is that building confidence is something anyone can do, including you. And never forget – you can do anything you set your mind to.
